Kevin Nolan to Newcastle Utd

Newcastle United have completed the £4m signing of Bolton Wanderers captain Kevin Nolan.

The Trotters accepted a bid from their Premier League rivals yesterday and the player travelled to the north-east to discuss personal terms and have a medical on Friday.
Nolan made 323 appearances for Bolton following his debut in 1999 and will immediately fill a hole left by Joey Barton, who has been ruled out for 10 weeks with a broken foot.
Nolan has joined the Tyneside outfit for a fee of £4 million, and has signed a long-term four and a half year deal.

Craig Bellamy insists Manchester City's ambitions were a major factor in his decision to move to Eastlands.

Wales captain Bellamy, 29, completed his move from West Ham for a fee thought to be in the region of £14m.

"There are so many things happening here that are out of this world, for me to be part of it was an offer that I could not walk away from," he said.

Bellamy said the presence of boss Mark Hughes, who he worked under at Blackburn, also influenced his move.

Wigan manager Steve Bruce has confirmed a deal to sell midfielder Wilson Palacios to Tottenham has been "virtually agreed".The deal is believed to be worth around £14million.
Bruce admitted that if Palacios was to leave it would be a tremendous bit of business by Wigan, who signed the player for around £1 million 12 months ago.

Manchester City have made an official approach for Hamburg midfielder Nigel de Jong.
De Jong's contract, which expires next year, contains a clause that would allow him to leave in the summer for only 2 million euros, while City's offer is a reported 15 million euros (£13.3million).
The Dutchman joined Hamburg in 2006 for 1.5million euros from Ajax and has played 66 Bundesliga games for the club, scoring twice.

Mark Hughes has revealed that Blackburn Rovers have rejected a new bid from Manchester City, this time in excess of £12 million, for their striker Roque Santa Cruz. The City boss revealed that he had been rebuffed after stepping up his interest in the Paraguayan he bought for Rovers last season from Bayern Munich for £3.5 million.
Blackburn chairman John Williams revealed on Wednesday lunchtime he was still waiting to receive an official offer from Eastlands for Santa Cruz.

It is believed contact was made last night at boardroom level and the improved bid tabled by chief executive Garry Cook. Blackburn announced on their website this morning that it had been rejected.

Rovers boss Sam Allardyce has made it clear he hopes to hold on to the club’s star man but, should City increase their offer to £18 million, Blackburn may be prepared to do business.

Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing has signalled his intent to leave the Riverside Stadium after handing in a written transfer request.

The 24-year-old wideman, who only signed a new five-year contract in February 2008, is believed to have become unsettled following Boro's slide towards the foot of the Premier League table this season.

According to the News of the World, Spurs are understood to have put in a £6 million offer for the 24-year-old, less than half the value Boro believe he is worth.

Manchester City completed the signing of England defender Wayne Bridge from Chelsea on Saturday for an undisclosed fee rumoured to be about 12 million pounds.
The 28-year-old left back passed his medical examination and agreed to a 4 1/2-year contract that British papers have suggested could make him the highest paid fullback in the world.

Bridge started just 74 Premier League games since joining Chelsea in July 2003, with his chances particularly limited after the Blues signed Ashley Cole from Arsenal in August 2006. The transfer to City, financed by the club's wealthy Arab owners, should give him regular games to help him challenge Cole for his spot in the England team.
